Dear Dr Morris:

MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT E-5979 Containment Purging Information Your letter of October 12, 1971 requested information on the effects of purging containment after a postulated design basis loss-of-coolant accident. We responded with our letter of October 22 to indicate that substantial investigative and computational efforts would be required

.and our objective was to supply the information to you in the latter part of January 1972.

We understand General Electric Company submitted, to the Atomic Energy Commission, generic information on a preposed Containment Atmospheric Dilutien (CAD) system. As a result of AEC review, General Electric was asked to prepare calculations applicable to specific containment systems including Monticello. This additional information is now under preparation and we understand vill be submitted early next month for AEC review.

We also vill be reviewing the information as it applies to the Monticello containment system and fc11oving our review, we vill be in a position to respond to specifics contained in your October 12, 1971 letter.
