AEC Docket Nos. 50-358 and 50-359
Dear Mr. Case:
We are transmitting herewith 8 copies of a supplement to our draf t report of 4 May 1971 on the William H. Zimmer Nuclear Power Station. This supplement deals only with the foundation evaluation for the plant. In our draf t report we discussed a number of the factors relating to an evaluation of the adequacy of the foundations; we are awaiting additional information on a number of points. in the meantime, we have been requested by your office to look in more detail at (a) the river bank stabliity. (b) the pile-supported pipeline, and (c) the possibility of liquefied material acting against Class I s t ru c tu re s . We have undertaken considerable additional studies of these items, based on the information we have on hand, including material presented in Amendment 12. We present in the attached supplement a more detailed assessment of the situation, including a recuest for Mditional information; most of those i tems for which additional information is needed, as summari. zed at the end of the attached report, were noted in our report of 4 May 1971.
We shall be pleased to discuss these matters in more detail with your staff as may be appropriate.
Respectful 1y submi tted,
