Dear Mr. Boyd:

i This is-in response to your letter of December 17, 1971,.in which you requested additional information con-i cerning the installation of an energy absorbing system in the fuel. pools at Quad-Cities Units 1.and 2.

Since receiving your letter, we have altered the design of the energy absorbing system.

The design l

change was required to alleviate' fuel handling problems i

which had arisen.

Work is nearly completed on the new design and we will submit information on this design as well as' answers to your question by March 31, 1972.
