i s t tory

. N Da' Pursuant to the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 as amended, and the Commission's Rules and Regulations issued thereunder, Long Island Lighting Company supplements and -

amends its license application filed May 15, 1968, as follows:

1. Increase in Size of Shoreham Unit 1 The size of Shoreham Unit 1 will be increased in size I to a rating of 2436 Mwt which will produce a station gross electrical output of approximately 850 Mw.

Seventy-three (73) copies of a new Preliminary Safety l Analysis Report (PSAR) describing the features of the new unit are submitted as a part of this amendment.

2. Estimate of Construction Costs The estimate of the total cost of Shoreham Unit 1 is:

(a) Total nuclear production plant costs $183,500,000 (b) Transmission, distribution and general plant costs 28,500,000 (c) Nuclear fuel inventory costs for first core 23,000,000 Total Estimated Cost $235,000,000 These costs are based on late 1968 dollars.

3. Source of Construction Funds The total assets of LILCO are presently in excess of

$882,000,000. Operating revenues for 1968 were approxi-mately $261,000,000 and net income was in excess of

$38,000,000. For a more detailed analysis of the Company's I financial state, a copy of the 1968 Annual Report is L attached to this Amendment.

l

! Construction requirements for LILCO for the years 1969 through 1973, including a major portion of the cost of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station as set forth in para-graph (2) above, are estimated at $573,000,000. It is anticipated that approximately 40% of this amount will be supplied by internal funds with the remaining 60% to be secured from external sources. As of this time, it is not possible to predict the type of securities that will be sold to receive the capital. LILCO has, however, been successful in raising sufficient capital in the past to meet its expanding construction program.

4 Construction Schedule Major construction work is expected to begin at the site following the issuance of the construction permit. The estinated earliest and latest construction completion dates for the station are October 1,1974 and October 1, 1975 respectively. Commercial operation of the station is scheduled for May 1, 1975 Very truly yours, CZ C. j l ate A. C. Sugden c0 o) 9 Or &
