Engineering Branch Division of Construction FACILITY LICENSE APPLICATION BY LONG ISLAND LIGHTING COMPANY, DOCKET No. 50-322 The Long' Island Lighting Company has filed an application for licenses to construct and operate a boiling water nuclear reactor, designated as the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station Unit 1, at its 450-acre site'on the north shore of Long Island in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, New York.

A copy of the application, which includes general information and Volumes I, II, III and IV of the Pre 14=4am Safety Analysis Report-for the proposed reactor, is enclosed. Please review the application and provide Mr. Charles, A. Lovejoy, Office of the Controller, with your comments as to the reasonableness of the applicant's estimates of the construction costs for the proposed reactor.
