BISCO PRODUCTION PROCEDURE t

O TITLE:

FABRICATION - BISCO FLEXIBLE BOOT S P so4 a

1.0 PURPOSE 1.1 To establish the standard methods for the fabrication of BISCO flexible boots used for Penetration Seals where the criteria of pressure (hydrostatic / air),

fire, radiation or any combination there of exists.

2.0 SCOPE 2.1 Provide the standard method for the fabrication, of BISCO Flexible Boots capable of withstanding the design criteria.

3.0 APPLICABLE MATERIALS Supplier' Product Description y'

3.1 BISCO SGR 600....... Keene Corp. - 656493F031 -

Glass fabric coated with silicone rubber on both surfaces.

3.2 732 Silicone........ Dow Corning 732 - A RTV Silicone Sealant sealant used to bond seams of multiple sectioned boots.

3.3 Solvent............. Ashland -

956962 l-Cleaner used to wipe down the boot fabric.

4.0 B'ISCO WORK SHEET 4.1 BISCO's Flexible Boot Work Sheet (Form FB-1) should be utilized to develop the cutting pattern for the boot configuration.

4.2 BISCO Form FB-3, which indicates nominal dimensions of standard welded seamless pipe shall be utilized to verify actual field measurements.

BISCO PRODUCTION

. PROCEDURE TITLE: FABRICATION - BISCO FLEXIBLE BOOT S P - 504 5.0 BOOT FABRICATION 5.1 The penetrating item and sleeve to be booted shall be measured and calculated to determine their circumference (c) and outside diameter (o.D.).

Whereas C=0.D. x 3.14 0.D. = C - 3.14 5.1.1 The outside diameter (O.D.) and circum-ference (C) shall include insulation, where applicable.

5.1.2 BISCO Form FB-3, " Standard Dimensions of Welded Seamless Pipe", may be used as a guide for verifying field measured and calculated circumference versus outside diameter.

i 5.2 BISCO Form FB-1, " BISCO Flexible Boot Work-Sheet",

shall be completed.

5.3 Where boot patterns calculated from Form FB-1 are larger than standard width BISCO SGR-600 fabric, multiple sections of boot fabric, as applicable, shall be joined together prior to fabricating.

5.3.1 All intended joining surfaces of the boot material (the overlap seam) shall be roughened with sandpaper a minimum of three inches from the edge and wi'ed p

clean with solvent.

5.3.2 The sealing area and overlap seam of the boot material should be free of all wrinkling.

5. 3.3 732 silicone sealant shall be applied to the inside of the overlap seam and spread to a minimum width of three k

inches. The seam shall be closed with all excess sealant being forced out and removed.

'5.3.4 The laminated boot sections shall be allowed to cure a minimum of sixteen hours before disturbing for further processing.

5.4 Utilizing the completed BISCO Flexible Boot Worksheet, Form FB-1, develop the boot configuration in one dimension on the applicable boot material as follows:

5.4.1 Extend out the BISCO SGR-600 material on a flat cutting surface. Visually check for critical surface. Visually check for critical surface flaws on both sides of 7- -

the boot fabric, i.e. flaking surface q

(incomplete cure), tears, cuts, surface

."~

voids, etc.

...a 5.4.2 Mark off a center line (L).

5.4.3 Scribe the two arcs R and R.

p g

5.4.4 Scribe C, on both sides of the center line (L) intersecting on the R arc.

p 5.4.5 Scribe C n both sides of the center line (L) 2 intersecting on the R arc.

g 5.4.6 Connect the points on the R arc and RS arc with a straight line. Tris is to be done on both sides of the center line (L).

5.4.7 Scribe the offset (0 ) where required.

3 5.4.8 Cut the material on the outer pattern lines, R R

and the two straight lines 3,

p R

R The pattern shall be cut along 3

p line O in lieu of R where applicable.
