Under sponsorship of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (STA), research staff of Reactor Safety Lab 1, Japan Atomic Energy Research Insitute (Tokai Establishment) are I conducting an extensive series of containment safety experiments at the full scale Mark II CRT facility. Under terms of the U.S./STA, Japan agreement, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory provides technical liaison to this program for the U.S.

NRC in the form of consultation with CRT staff for purposes of progress in advanced modeling and evaluated data needs of the NRC Mk II Containment long term program.

In particular this trip is required in order for Mr. Shay to provide immediate consultation and assistance regarding preparation and installation of 23 pressure transducers supplied on loan through this liaison by the U.S. NRC for use in the CRT facility tests of FY 81/82. ,
