Tbasco stated that total failure of the drainage syster would restle in the Rroundwater level risicg from the pottom of the foundation nat to 2C ft.

above t he bot t om of t he mat in a period ranging f rom one month to 3-1/2 yesrs.

The one mor.th estimate was calculated assuminr a perocability of C.5 x Indi ce/sec and a rainf all percolation of I-2/3 in. per month. The 3-1/2 year estieste was calculated assuninr the save permeability but no rainfall perec1stion.

Ebanco described how the drainage systen it prctected from t 'i e tellcwirr harard?:

(1) !;stural phenorene (a) Finod free heevy reir - tne grocnd slopes away f rae the raterorv I buildings and will route the water to the site store drains. Any rain water er.terine tbc rround will drain thrcuch the preurdwater dreirage system.

(b)

Earthouc' ee - the eroordwater draitare system is not Category 2.

r (c) Tornedo - the proundwater drainare syster is entirely below.-r4de.

(2) Accidental phencerne (e) Coeline water pire brer.i icside a Catercry 1 buileirr - the cruero-water syster is iselst ed by the walls of t r.t buildinr.

(b) Ccclin-water pipe break outside the Ceterorv I buildire - pirce a re seperated fror orainare syster. by rock, besultier water vill drair te site store dreirs.

At our request, Ebasco described the tests perf orr.ed to obteir tbc u rseabilities used in the desitn analysis. The guestion of whether the systen should be classified as Category I was discussec. Assuming that the systec is rot classified Category I and fails, the time required for repairs was theo dis-

cussed, We stated the following contenta about tne proposed groundwater drainage system:

i (1) At least the eenholer in the syster. should be classified as Catecory 1.

(2) l'os t ule t ed failures of outlets should te addressed.

(3) Insrectice procedures should be clearly establisheti. Croundwater level cutside building should be e,onitored durint construction and s i s( during the operating life et the plant. kith such a monitorine prorro_,

M G * '? 1975 (4) Adeenate capacity of the systee should be assured by pu=pinr test dcte.

~

(5) Timely repair capability should be assured, This is related to (4) above.

kFPSS stated that the details of't'he troundwater drainage system would be submitted with the resporser to the staf f's second round of requests for additional inferaation.
