Dear Ms. Mattia:
I write to you regarding the NRC's' court reporting
~
~
contract. - Our recent Indian Point hearings straddled the changing of-the guard from Alderson Reporting Company to
~
Tayloe Associates, and with several thousand pages of trans-cripts from each reporting company I think I can speak authoritatively about the relative merite of each.
Perhaps a reference to the transcript corrections
-which we. filed with our Licensing Board will give, you the best overview of all.
There are over 15,000 pages of trans-cript in our Indian Point record.
The first approximately 11,000 were reported by Alderson and the last approximately
.4,000 were reported by-Tayloa.. When we recently filed transcript corrections with the' Board, over three-fourths of
- them were on Tayloe transcript pages.: In other words, on the average, there were 12 times more significant errors occurring in the. Tayloe - transcripts.
There wereJalso numerous lost exhibits and g meral confusion surrounding
.the court reporting process.
1 I for one think that the NRC would be well advised to place transcript quality in a higher rank of criteria than others in the selection of a contract to perfonn this important function, and based upon extensive experience in the Indian Point case. I heartily recommend that you give further consideration in reengaging Alderson at the Learliest available opportunity, s
Very truly yours,,
