WATERFORD SES UNIT NO. 3 CONTRACT NO. W3-NY-4 2 5-3-77 7.0 PERSONNEL Each craftsman making splices shall be' trained in the method of making splices. Three (3) " test unit" sample splices shall be made by the crafts-man prior to making production splices. These three " test units" shall be turned over to the Engineer for testing as required by Reference 3.1.
Additional " test unit" samples shall be made, for testing as required. ,A log of trained splicers shall be maintained, see Attachment 12. 3. .
8.0 EQUIPMENT 4
5plicing Heater tool, Vinylex No. WC-1, manufactured by Vinylex Corporation, Knoxville, Tennessee, and shall be thermostatically preset for 460 degrees F
'and operate on 11 OV A.C. .
9.0 PROCEDURE 9.1 Connect splicing heater tool to 110 A.C. outlet .approximately 10 to 15 '
minutes prior to use to allow heat-up time, to rea9h 4600F.
S.2 overlap the two pieces of waterstop material to be spliced and cut as
7 required, to ensure matching edges'. ,
e j 9.3 Pres's the straight cut edges against the pre-heated splicer heated tool blade for approximately 10 to 20 seconds or until. PVC melts.
9.4 Quickly remove the heater tool blade and press the melted edges together to form a neat splice Joint.
95 Do not stretch or move the splic'ed section for 30 seconds. To cool the
- materialJ uickly, water may_be used.

10.0 TEST UNITS ,
" Test units" shall be made to meet the following requirements:- -
10,;1 Three (3) " test units" shall be made by each splicer craftsman for
. qualification. In addition, one (1) " test unit" shall be made when splicer craftsman is changed or as deemed necessary by the Engineer.
10.2 One (1) " test unit" shall be made for each ten (10) field splicas.
10 3 " Test units" may be taken from splices made in waterstop in the structure or from " companion" waterstop placed alongside the actual waterstop to be used for the sole purpose of obtaining test samples.
11.0 CONDITIONS ,,
