i 1.0 PURPOSE To specify the inspections and examinations that will be performed .by J. A. Jones quality Assurance personnel to assure that waterstops are l

2.0 SCOPE I This procedure covers the handling and installation of waterstops for Waterford SES Unit No. 3, Phase I, Concrete Construction.

3.0 REFERENCES

3.1 Ebasco Services, Inc. Specification No. LOU-1564.476, latest revi sion, "Waterstops".

  • 3.2 J. A.. Jones Construction Work Procedure No. W-WP-8, " Handling and Installation of Waterstops".

t 4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES 4.1 Ebasco is responsible for supplying factory spliced waterstops and I the materials for field made splices, with the proper certifications as required by Reference 3.1.

4.2 J. A. Jones is responsible for the proper handling, splicer train-l Ing, splicing and Installation of waterstops as required by Reference 3.1 and 3.2 and in accordance with approved construction

! drawings. J. A. Jones Is also responsible for field testing in j accordance with Reference 3.1.

4.3 J. A. Jones Engineering and Construction Supervisory personnel are responsible to train the. craftsman (splicer) who will be making production splices prior to the performance of the work.

l 4.4 J. A. Jones Engineering and Construction Supervisory personnel are i responsible to complete and maintain all records as required by Reference 3.2.

i 4.5 J. A. Jones quality Assurance personnel are responsible to assure i compliance with this procedure and Reference 3.2. Also, to assure i that only trained personnel (craf tsmen) a're used for making job-I made splices.

5.0 DEFIN ITIONS

' 5.1 Wa terstops - A continuous sheet of material designed to bridge across either a closed or an open Joint in concrete to prevent
the passage of water through the joint.

5.2 Test Unit - Shall be as defined in Reference 3.1.

6.0 INSPECTION l

  • 6.1 The assigned quality verification inspector (s) shall, as a minimum, perform and document tne following inspections.

6.1.1 Assure that only trained splicers are used for making

Job-made splices.

6.1.2 Assure that the proper equipment is used for making spilces and that the equipment is in good working condition. .

l 6.1.3 Assure that splice joint configuration is correct.

j 6.1.4 Assure that the technique specified in Paragraphs 9.3, 9.4 l and 9.5 of Reference 3.2 for joining is followed by i

c ra f t smen.

I 6.1.5 Assure that factory-made waterstops, Job-made waterstops, splices and waterstop materials are handled in such a j manner as to preve'nt damage or contamination from deleterous materials.

6.1.6 Assure that waterstops are installed in accordance with approved construction drawings.

6.1.7 Assure that the testing frequency specified in Paragraph

! 7.0 below is complied with.

1 6.1.8 A Bi-Monthly inspection shall be made ofiinstalled but not g completely embedded waterscop material and documented on y the "Waterstop Surveillance Checklist" (Attachment 9.2).

SITE INSPECTION AND TEST PROCEDURE: W-SITP-8 REV. NO. 4 DATE: 10-24-78 TITLE: WATERSTOP INSPECTION PROJECT TITLE: WATERFORD SES UNIT NO. 3 CONTRACT NO. W3-NY-4 7.0 TESTING Test units shall be made to meet the following requirements: ,

7.1 Three (3) test units shall be made by each splicer for qualifica-tion. In addition, one (1) test unit shall be made if there is reason to question the quality of work or as may be deemed necessary by Ebasco.

7.2 One (1) test unit shall be made for each ten (10) field splices.

7,3 Test units may be taken from splices made as production splices or from a companion splice placed alongside the actual waterstop to be used for the sole purpose of obtaining test samples. Companion splices shall be made under actual field conditions.

7.4 The assigned Quality Verification Inspector (s) shall identify the test splice with the splicer's J.* A. Jones badge number and assure delivery to the testing agency.

7.5 J. A. Jones shall furnish Ebasco one (1) copy of the test data ,

report. J. A. Jones will document the acceptability of job-made waterstop splices on the Waterstop Splice Log, Attachment 9.1.

ii.0 RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION l

8.1 The assigned Quality Verificati.e. Inspector (s) shall perform the inspections listed Paragraph 6.0 and record the information on Attachment 9.1, Waterstop Splice Log.

8.2 All records, upon completion of the work or as otherwise specified, l J will be turned over to the Ebasco Quality Assurance Supervisor

! for the purchaser's records.

R 8.3 Waterstop Surveillance Checklist, (Attachment 9.2) shall be used for continuing. inspection of installed waterstops.
