To specify the inspections and examinations that will be performed by J. A.

Jones quality Assurance personnel to assure that waterstops are in accord-ance with contract drawings and specifications..

2.0 SCOPE This procedure covers the handling and installation of waterstops for Waterford SES Unit No. 3, Phase I Concr'ete Construction. ,

3.0 REFERENCES

Ebasco Services, Inc. Specification No. LOU-1564.476, latest revision, 3.1 "Wa terstops" .

3.2 J. A. Jones Construction Work Procedure No. W-WP-8, " Handling and Installation of Waterstops".

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES 4.1 Ebasco is responsible for supplying factory spliced waterstops and the materials for field made splices, with the proper certifications as required by Reference 3'.1. In addition, Ebasco Is responsible for testing in accordance with Reference .3.1. .

4.2 J. A. Jones is responsible for the proper handling, splicer training, spilcing and installation of waterstops as required by Reference 3.1 and 3.7 and in accordance with approved construction drawings. J. A.

Jones is also responsible for the taking of " test units" for delivery to Ebasco for testing per Reference 31.

4.3 J. A. Jones Engineering and Construction Supervisory personnel are responsibl,e to train the craftsman (splicer) who will be making pro-duction splices prior to the performance' of the work.

4.4 J. A. Jones Engineering and Construction Supervisory personnel are responsible to complete and maintain all records as required by -

Reference 3.2.

Jones quality Assurance personnel are responsible to assure compliance with this procedure and Refe.rence 3.2. Also, to assure that only trained personnel (craftsmen) are used for making job-made splices.

5.0 DEFINITIONS 5.1 Waterstops - A continuous sheet of material designed to bridge across either a . closed or an open joint in concrete to prevent the passage of

. water through the joint. l 5.2 Test Unit - Shall be as defined in Refe'rence 3'.1. 6- .:.

6.0 INSPECTION 6.1 The assigned quality verification inspector (s) shall, as a minimum, perform and document the following inspections.

6.1.1 Assure that only trained spilcers are used for making job-made splices.

6.1.2 Assure that the proper equipment is used for making spilces, and that,the equipment is in good working condition.

6.1.3 Assure that splice jgint configuration is correct.

6.1.4 Assdre tha't the technique specified in Paragraphs 9.3~, 9.4 and 9.5 of Reference 3.2 for joining is followed by craftsmen.

6.1.5 Assure that factory-made waterstops, job-made waterstops and waterstop materials are handled in such a manner as to prevent damage or contamination from deleterous materials.

6.1.6 Assure that waterstops are installed in accordance with approved construction drawings.

6.1 7 Assure that the testing frequency specified in Paragraph 7.0 below is complied with. ,

PROJECT TITLE: WATERFORD SES UNIT NO. 3 CONTRACT NO. W3-NY-4 7.0 TESTING Test units shall be made to meet the following requirements:

7.1 Three (3) test units shall be made by each splicer for -qualification.

In addition, one (1) test unit shall be made if there is reason to question the quality of work or as may. be deemed necessary by Ebasco.

72 One (1) . test unit shall be made for each ten (10) field splices.

. 7.3 Test units may be taken from spli es made as production splices or from a companion splice placed alongside the actual waterstop to be used for the sole purpose of obtaining test samples. Companion splices shall be made under actual field conditions.

7.4 The assigned quality verification inspector (s) shall identify and deliver the test splices to Ebasco for testing as required by Reference 3.1. ,

7.5 Ebasco shall furnish J. A. Jones one (1) copy of the test data report, so that J. A. Jones can document the acceptability of job-made water-stop splices and compliance with the requirements of Reference 3.1.

8.0 RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION 8.1 The assigned qualliy Assur nce inspe'etor(s) shall perform the in-spections listed in Paragraph 6.0 and record the information on Attachment No. 9.1, "Waterstop inspection Report".

. assure compliance with the test frequency requirements of Paragraph 7.0 above and Reference 3 1.,

8.3 All recoros, 'upon completion of the work or as otherwise specified, v will be turned ovei to the Ebasco Senior quality Control Supervisor for the purchaser's records.
