1980 - 1165 MW INSTALLATION UNIT NO 3 .

CORE DRILLING PROCEDURE ASP-IV-32," Approval of Core Hole Locations" states that the ESSE Civil Engineer shall be responsible for specifying the method of core drilling' and the disposition of reinforcing steel interferences.

ESSE gives the disposition on the Field Sketch by checking one of three bexes. Questions are arising about the methodsdescribed on the Field Sketch necessitating the-following elaboration.

s A. OK to Cut Reinforcing Steel This disposition is self explanatory. The hole may be core drilled with a hard bit through any reinforcing encountered.

B. Chip Concrete to Avoid Rebar

  • This disposition is given when reinforcing can not be cut or damaged. The location of the resteel is determined by chipping the concrete cover from both sides of the nember. The exact penetration location is then chosen to clear both faces of rebar. The penetration may be chipped or core drilled.

C. Use Carbide Bit-If Resteel Encountered. Shift Role Location This method is specified when damage to reinforcing is not critical and an exact hole location is not required. The penetration is core drilled, using a carbide bit, in a cautious canner. The moment rebar is detected, the hole is to be relocated to avoid dar. age to the steel.

When the annulus between the pipe sleeve or conduit is filled. l (with dry pack grout or type F nortar) the surface of the penetration '

shall be coated with Sikadur Hi-Mod epoxy to permit proper bond to the existing concrete. * -
