Dear Er. Secretary:

1 I strongly oppose, at this' time, the granting of a licenso .to Jersey Central Power and Light Company of New Jersey to put into operation their ,

l plant in Lacy Township, Ocean Countye 1 7then the plant site was proposed, the public was infomed ,

l that a study _would be made concerning the effects of themal pollution 6n tho marino environment.1:onmouth County shares an interest with Ocean County in tho  ;

resources of the Atlantic Estuary and, consequently shares the responsibility'to protect ita. resources from abuse and misuse. And, yet, very little information has come to our area of the shore regarding the plant and none regarding the study. .

It is widely known that our marine resources, particularly I choll fish, are in deep trouble because of pollution; so too,. are our recres -

.o , ;.

tional wators. It is also widely known that a natural riso in temperaturo of tho waters compounds their already polluted condition. Two dramatic exampics of this are the " Red Tide" in Bamegate Bay in 1964 and the one that plagued the c,onotal waters 6P*onmouth Co'unty this past year. It is irresponsible for any citizen to propose a use such as.that proposed by Jersey Central Power anf Light Company.-  ;

l It follows, therefore, that all of the resources of govern -

mont and scientist in the field should be utilized to develop a sound basis on which to make a judgement of the magnitude proposed by the power company. And, i vet, the "arine Iabs. of the Bureau of Sports Fisheries, although stationed on '

, our shores, has not been. involved in the study. .

. I request, therefore, that the license be withhela untu the study is completed and its' findings are made public and, that you recommend to Jersey Central Power and Light Co. and the principals involved with the st~udy that the public be given the opportunity to discuss the findings and make its feelings known to you. .

~

I Respectfully yours, M/ Cb-9602230215 960129
