dyster Creek No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant i
i Gentlemen:
It has come to my attention that the above nuclear power plant has had a number of problems
]
'from supposedly bad welds and metal failure.
I also understand that tests were performed to see how.the repdirs might be made, but the corrodents were'never identified.
~
I would appreciate receiving from the Commission a complete report on the nature of the geld and metal problems at this plant and what attempts have been made to identify the corrodents and to solve the problems.
There is also concern that this plant will release radioactive material into the atmosphere and liquid solids on a batch basis into Barnegut Bay.
Information as to the l
probability of this occurrence will also be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, s

Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant RE:
Dear Senator Muskie:
13, 1969, Mr. Seabourg wrote to mc on October Atomic pursuant to your request concerning the above said Plant.
I have discussed Mr. Seabourg's comments with onc of our expsrts and we have the following comments:
Oyster Creek and Tarapur (India)
In the Dresden, design called for 304 stainless Plants the All three of these Nuclear Power steel in a forged or vrought form.
plants devoloped cracks within components (the Dresden-after 7 years of operation).
t of the Oyster Creek reactor, it was a well-known fact tha the 304 stainless proposed in the Oyster Creek plant was er-susceptible to this type of cracking which was later exp ionced.
The specifications should have called for 304 L stainless steel if 304 was a desirable composition. It is difficult The "L" being low carbon stainless steel.for me to unde were approved inview of the foregoing.
There is certain additional information set fo below which we would appreciate your obtaining for us relative to this plant.
