"'4.1.4 Accident Environments Each piece of equipment entered into the Seabrook Program was evaluated to determine if it would function as required during exposure to postulated accident conditions. The specific environmental parameters evaluated are discussed in detail below.

" A. Operating Time

'"All equipment in this program which is required to function in a harsh environment will be qualified for the costulated post-accident duration of one year.

"In order to meet this one year operating time, Seabrook equipment must be qualiffed to the forty-year normal plus one-year accident total integrated radiation dose; and must demonstrate qualification in the harsh environment it could be exposed to for at least the amount of time required for said environment to return to maximum normal service conditions. This is considered sufficient to demonstrate qualification since after the environmental conditions return to normal the qualification of the device for the remainder of the one year operating time will be enveloped by the qualified life of the device.

O o "As an example, a piece of equipment with a qualified life of 20 years would be replaced after 19 years because the remainder of its qualified life would not cover the postulated post-accident duration of one year.

"Should it be determined that specific pieces of equipment cannot be qualified for one year, the required operating time for that component will be determined and the component will be qualified for at least that duration plus margin."

In the review, which is substantially completed as of this date, no item of equipment has been identified that cannot meet the generic one-year post-accident qualification standard, and it is not presently, anticipated that any such item will be identified. . It (

is presently anticipated that Applicants- panel of witnesses will include Mr. David Maidrand, Senior Project Engineer in the Seabrook Project Department of r

Yankee Atomic Electric Company. Composition of the balance of the panel has not yet been determined.
