Dear Chief Meyer:
I write to you today because I am deeply concerned about the Y2K readiness of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, as well as other nuclear plants. I have learned that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the oversight agency for nuclear power plants, is considering waiving enforcement actions against those plants that operate outside the terms of their licenses due to Y2K problems.
In my view, this would be a grave and dangerous error in judgement. The licensing process is in place to ensure that nuclear power plants operate safely, and waving enforcement, for whatever reason, would be wrong. I urge you to strongly consider the ramifications of such a policy. I look forward to your response to this issue.
Sincerely, WW $&
Richard L. Russman Senate District 19 Environment Committee Chair
