SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 26, 1978 A meeting to discuss matters related to the fuel loading date for McGuire Unit 1 was held at the McGuire facility on September 26, 1978 with representatives of the Duke Power Company.
Enclosure No. 1 presents a list of attendees.
During the past several months, members of the Case Load Forecast Panel and project management personnel have visited several reactor sites to assess the applicant's projected fuel load date. The McGuire visit was one of these scheduled series of meetings. The purpose of the meeting was to review the applicant's plans and schedules for completion of construction, to observe the actual status of plant construction, and to assess the scheduled fuel load date. An outline of the agenda of the meeting is shown in Enclosure No. 2.
The applicant reported that as of September 1978, Unit No. I was 95".
comolete with Unit No. 2 55i, complete. There are approximately 2300 construction workers at the site, mostly working on a one shift bases on Unit 2.
The applicant predicts a fuel load date of February 8,1978 for Unit 1.
The critical cath is shown on Enclosure No. 3.
Significant t
design and engineering effort remains underway with several hundred people l
working on final "as-built" stress analysis and piping support verification, i
fire protection system additions, security systems design, heat tracing for borated water piping, etc. Ninety-three percent of the cables have been pulled.
However,1001 cables remain te be pulled, about half of them associated with the security system. Cable pulling is scheduled for completion by January 1, 1979.
Eighty-seven percent of tne pipe hangers are installed. However, 4,657 hangers remain to be installed. This effort is scheduled tr ' a completed on January 12, 1978. The schedule for completion of hanger.nstallation and ASME code stamping for each subsystem that requires code stamping is shown in Enclosure 4.

OCT 161978 Although the applicant is very confident that the indicated schedule can be completed by February 8,1979, they do admit that if any major problems develop, the schedule would be jeopardized. The Forecast Panel agreed and concluded that achieving the. February.8,1979 date is possible but everything must proceed smoothly.
The Panel believes that early April is probably a realistic date for fuel loading.
