HAYWARD-TYLER PUMPS
.f This memorandum is a preliminary response to your memorandum of December 23, 1981 on the same subject. We were unable to obtain any infomation concerning Hayward-Tyler pumps from'the NPRD system.
An LER search aise proved fruitless.
Prelim-inary indications from an investigation into allegations related to pump quality are that the Hayward-Tyler Company began supplying products to the nuclear indus-try in 1977.
Therefore, it is quite possible that there are no operating plants using Hayward-Tyler pumps in safety systens. The reason that the computer search yielded no infomation may be that a licensee does not usually provide input to the NPRD system until the plant receives an operating license.
As a part of the investigation currently underway, the Hayward-Tyler Pump Ccmpany.
will be asked to provide a list of all nuclear power plants to which they supplied safety equipment. This will provide the answer to question 1 of your me orandum and possibly the answer to question 2.
Weeexpect to have that infomation by the end of January.
It may, however, be necessary to contact individual licensees in order to obtain a complete response to question 2.
As stated above, in response to question 3, no failures of Hayward-Tyler pumps have been reported in the LER W HPRD files for operating nuclear plants.
