Dear Mr. Denton:

Enclosed are forty copies of the documents entitled " Environmental Qualification Report for Class lE Equipment for Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1", Revision 1, dated January 15, 1982. This submittal is a revision to our previous submittal on the same subject, transmitted by LILCO letter SNRC-576 dated May 27, 1981, and supersedes that earlier submittal.

The significant dif ferences between the earlier submittal and this one include the following:

1) Re-organized format for the purpose of editorial aesthetics;
2) Expanded discussions on:

primary containment sprays aging considerations surveillance and preventive maintenance quality assurance;

3) Update of the Equipment Qualification Status Report (in Appendix F) and the Squipment Qualification Summary Sheets (in Appendix B);
4) Addition of Appendix G which provides qualification summaries and justifications for interim operation for equipment identified as having incomplete environ-mental qualification documentation.

January 25, 1982 SNRC-663 Page 2 As in the earlier submittal the qualification requirements are given in the Equipment Qualification Status Report (in Appendix F), while the qualification results are given in the Equipment Qualification Summary Sheets (in Appendix 3).

The computerized Equipment Qualification Status Report (EOSR) in Appendix F provides the current qualification status of individual equipment items. A summary of status is given in the table attached to this letter. This status determination indicates that approximately 79% of the equipment in this program has been evaluated.

l Due to the advanced stage of completion of the evaluation program, and the detailed description of the program provided herewith and in the earlier submittal, we believe that our equipment and documen-tation are ready for NRC staff audit. We request that the audit be held in February, 1982. We look forward to your early and favorable reply to this request.

Very truly yours, h I' b' J. L. Smith Manager, Special Projects Shoreham Nuclear Power Station JPE:mp ,
