Mr. James P. O'Reilly Special Report Page Two November 23, 1982 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EVENT On November 10, 1982, with the Plant in Mode 2, Radiation Monitor RM-G19C (Main Steam Line C monitor) was declared inoperable because of erratic indications. Technical Specification 3.3.3.1 requires this monitor to be operable for Modes 1, 2, 3, and 4.

ACTION TAKEN The station pre-planned alternate method of monitoring was established subsequent to the monitor being declared inoperable per Action Statement 30 of Technical Specification 3.3.3.1. ,

CAUSE FOR THE INOPERABILITY The cause for the inoperability of RM-G19C is attributed to moisture accumulation in the connector of the detector to the preamp cable.

PLANS AND SCHEDULE FOR RESTORING TO OPERABLE STATUS A modification has been approved to interchange models for the Main Steam Line monitors due to their inherent associated steam environment. RM-G190 is currently planned to be interchanged and returned to operable status prior to January 1,1983 l
