Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 Special Report (SPR 90-004)

Dear Mr. Ebneter:

This Special Report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of Station:. Administrative Procedure (SAP) 131A, " Fire Service Equipment / Systems Operability Requirements."-

t On March 23, 1990, the Virgil C.. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) commenced shutdown for the fifth refueling outage. At 1325 hours0.0153 days
0.368 hours
0.00219 weeks
5.041625e-4 months
on April 14,'1990, the-fire / pressure barrier for Trace No. 168 in Room CB-36-11 was removed from service to facilitate testing. Because the fire barrier was inoperable, VCSNS performed the fire detector operability check and established the. fire t

watch patrol for the trace as specified in the Action Statement of SAP-131A,Section VII, " Fire Rated Assemblies " The fire barrier was restored to service at 1740 hours0.0201 days
0.483 hours
0.00288 weeks
6.6207e-4 months
on April 21, 1990.

As specified in Special Report 90-002, dated April 19, 1990, SAP-131A.is being-revised to eliminate the need to report to the NRC fire barriers taken out of service as a matter of routine operation. The compensatory measures presently required for inoperable fire barriers will remain.
