Dear Mr. Barton:

Subject:

Reactor Cavity Seal Ring Generic Issue for Joseph Farley, Unit No.1 We have completed our review of your letter dated March 30, 1978, supplemented by letter dated November 9,1979. By letter of October 2,1978, we requested you to evaluate the potential for the reactor cavity annulus seal ring to become a destructive missile in the event of a loss-of-coolant accident pipe break inside the reactor cavity.

We agree that your response acceptably resolves this issue for Joseph M. Farley, Unit No.1, and no further action on your part is required.

Sincerely, Original Signed By A. Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactors Branch fl Division of Operating Reactors cc: L. Kintner, DPM 1940 234
