The following is provided in response to your letter of July 19, 1979, concerning a potential for the reactor cavity annulus seal ring to become a missile hazzard in the event of a Reactor Coolant System pipe break inside the annulus cavity.
Arkansas Power and Light has previously committed to proposing the necessary action required to preclude the seal ring from becoming a potential missile no later than our fourth refueling shutdown (see APSL D. Rueter/V. Stello letter dated March 16, 1979). This shutdown is currently scheduled for the fall in 1980.
Since the March letter issuance the seal ring has been moved away from the annulus cavity area and, therefore, does not currently pose a missile hazzard.
