Dear Mr. Grier:

IE Bulletin 79-15 requested certain information concerning deep draft pumps used in safety related applications. The following is our response to this Bulletin.

Shoreham utilizes four (4) deep draft pumps in the service water system which is the source of cooling water for safety related and non-safety related systems throughout the plant.

There are no other pumps of this type used at this facility for a safety related application.

The service water pumps were manufactured by the Bingham-Williamette Company and identified as type VM16x26C--2 stage.

The individual pump rated capacity is 8600 gpm at 147 ft. head with a speed of 1170 rpm. The bell lip to discharge flange center line is thirty-four (34) feet.

Except for the acceptance test program performed by the manu-facturer after fabrication no additional operating time has been accrued on these pumps since installation at Shoreham.

The startup test program for the service water system has not as yet been consumated. In light of this we cannot provide the additional information requested pertinent to maintenance his-tory, operational problems, and operating availability.
