OF THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT (EPID NO.

L- 2018-RNW-0024)

Dear Mr. Stoddard:

A review team consisting of staff from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) participated in an audit from March 12-15, 2019, at Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2 (Surry), as part of the subsequent license renewal application environmental review. The goal of the audit was to review documentation and gather information to ensure that the environmental requirements for subsequent license renewal, as codified in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51, were met. A letter dated March 4, 2019 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19044A556) was sent containing an audit plan.

An entrance meeting was held on March 12, 2019, to introduce participants and discuss audit logistics. During the remainder of the site audit, the NRC staff participated in tours of Surry, examined data used by Dominion Energy Virginia (Dominion) in preparation of the environmental report, and met in smaller groups with Dominion representatives to address the audit needs identified in the audit plan. The enclosure to this letter provides a list of representatives from the NRC and Dominion who participated in the audit.

At the conclusion of the audit, the NRC staff summarized the status of the review with Dominion representatives during the exit meeting and in a tracking spreadsheet (ADAMS Accession No.

ML19107A020). Many of the NRCs questions identified in the audit plan or during the audit were answered through the conduct of the audit. Those that were not answered were included in a request for additional information (RAI) (ADAMS Accession No. ML19114A435). The RAl also references documents requested by the NRC staff during the audit. While the NRC staff did not identify any significant environmental issues during this audit, the staff indicated that the environmental review was ongoing and that any additional information necessary to support the review would be formally requested via the RAI process, during the course of the review.
