STP Nuclear Operating Co. (STPNOC) recently received an Error Notification regarding CASA Grande Version 1.7.2 (provided in Attachment to this letter). In discussions with Alion Science and Technology, STPNOC determined the error does not affect the analyses performed with CASA Grande in the referenced STPNOC risk-informed GSl-191 licensing application.

Alion generated the error notice after finding an error in the CASA Grande Version 1.7.2 code for some input formats defining the shelled zone-of-influence calculations. This error was only applicable for input formats that resulted in a non-square input matrix for the "Proportion of Debris Destruction Size in Each Zone" input definition. Alion found the error during review of results for another client and it has since been fixed. Non-square input formats now work correctly in both the newer CASA Grande versions (CASA Grande Version 1.7.3 and Version

1. 7.4). Because STP input for the "Proportion of Debris Destruction Size in Each Zone" input definition never needed non-square matrices to describe plant debris types, this error never affected STP analyses.

A software error/bug was found in CASA Grande and reported that affects the debris destruction size calculations and associated calculated destruction amounts for some input formats; where debris destruction size calculations apply to shelled zones of influence (ZOls) with different proportions of debris sizes destroyed (ie. fines, smalls, larges) in zones with varying distance from the break. The error/bug was introduced during CASA Grande Ver. 1.7.1, which added the capability of defining a user specified number of destruction zones and independently specified number of destruction sizes for shelled ZOI calculations, and affected both CASA Grande Ver. 1.7. I and Ver. 1.7.2. The error only affects calculations performed with CASA Grande Ver. 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 where the number of destruction zones is not equal to the number of destruction sizes.

The error was resolved in the current tracked Subversion (SVN) of CASA Grande, and the correction will be implemented in the full release of CASA Grande 1.7.3 which be made available to users.

If version 1.7. I and 1.7.2 are used for current analysis only square matrices with equal number of destruction zones and destruction sizes can be used.
