NEPA consultation - waterborne outbreak Attachments: Waterborne Outbreak.pdf

Dear Dr. Gaul,

Thank you for the reply. For your information, attached is a letter from STP seeking similar information in 2009 that does not appear to have a reply. The letter contains information on the specific waterborne micro-organism of concern and the applicants analysis about the plant operation relative to the risk of the micro-organism growth. The NRC staff is reviewing this information and would appreciate to know if you have any comments on the applicants analysis.

P.S. as stated below, the staff is reviewing the application submitted by the STP Nuclear Operating Company for license renewal in accordance with the NEPA and 10 CFR 51 requirements. Consistent with the regulation, the staff intends to send a separate formal consultation letter to you describing the staffs reviewing process and the reviewing schedule for your information.

Inquiry response

Tam, We have not had any waterborne outbreaks in Texas that we have investigated with infectious disease cases. Therefore, we do not know what effect any proposed changes might have on the risk for waterborne outbreaks related to nuclear power plants.
