Prohibited Item Found In Lunchbox During Break I Detailed

Description:

5/17/2005 12:26:44 PM - RETZLAFF, PAUL:

During the first break period this morning (0900 a.m.), a Contractor employee discovered an unauthorized item in his lunch pail. An unopened alcoholic beverage (beer) container was discovered to have inadvertently been packed with his lunch.

This discovery occurred in the North Service Building 4th Floor Cafeteria. The NSB is within the Protected Area.

The employee had assumed that he had packed a can of soda (the containers appear similar) with his lunch.

Inattention to detail when packing lunch this a.m. Did not verify that prohibited items were not brought into the Protected Area.

Immediate Action Taken: 5/17/2005 12:26:44 PM - RETZLAFF, PAUL:

The individual contacted his Supervisor as soon as discovery was made.

The individual along with his Supervisor carried the item to the South Gatehouse building and reported the incident to the Security Officers on duty. The prohibited item was confiscated by Security.

The Point Beach FFD Program Manager was notified and requested an interview with the Individual.

Corrective Actions taken: The Individual was interviewed and counseled by the PBNP FFD Program Manager on ensuring that prohibited items are not brought within the Protected Area.

The individual was re-allowed access to the Protected Area.

Recommendations: 5/17/2005 12:26:44 PM - RETZLAFF, PAUL:

Brief personnel on the importance of checking personal belongings when coming onto the PBNP Site. Ensure that no prohibited items are brought on Site.
