VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT 2005-001 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is submitting this report pursuant to the requirements of NUREG-1394 and NUREG-1022, Section 3.2.13. During Refuel 15, the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) Integrated Plant Computer System (IPCS) was upgraded to a new system supplied by Data Systems and Solutions (DS&S). At that time, the DOS based Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) was removed from service and replaced by a new application running on the IPCS.

DS&S was responsible for developing the new ERDS software to communicate with the NRC system, when required. They were also responsible for testing the system by connecting to the Idaho Falls test facility before delivery of the system to VCSNS. There were no changes made to the data points or transmission parameters due to the change in software. VCSNS personnel verified that the system met specifications during factory acceptance testing before the system was delivered for installation during the Refuell5 outage.

The same modems previously used continue to be used with the new system. VCSNS personnel have satisfactorily tested the communication link between the new VCSNS ERDS and the NRC systems.
