VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (VCSNS) UNIT 1 SPECIAL REPORT 2022-004-00 INOPERABLE RADIATION MONITORING INSTRUMENTATION CHANNEL Dominion Energy South Carolina, Inc. (DESC) hereby submits Special Report 2022-004-00 pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification (TS) 6.9.2, as required by Action 30 of TS 3.3.3.1.b, Table 3.3-6, RADIATION MONITORING INSTRUMENTATION, Item 2.d.ii.

The 'A' Steam Line High Range Radiation Monitor, RM-G19A, was declared inoperable on September 21, 2022, at 1053 EDT, due to a communication error. Upon declaring RM-G19A inoperable , VCSNS implemented a preplanned alternate method of monitoring in accordance with the requirements of Action 30 of TS Table 3.3-6. VCSNS is working to refurbish the existing detector. In parallel, four new detectors have been ordered from the vendor and are expected to arrive at VCSNS in the fourth quarter of 2022 for installation, if needed. VCSNS is tentatively targeting restoration of RM-G19A to OPERABLE status within 90 days of this letter.

RM-G19A provides high range radiation monitoring for the Main Steam Line as described within Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) Section 11.4.2.17 Steam Line High Range Monitors, Channels RM-G19A, B, and C, and FSAR Table 11.4-1 Process and Effluent Radiological Monitors.
