VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT 2002-001 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is submitting this report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.10.a. The Digital Metal Impact Monitor System (DMIMS) has one channel, number 751 (Reactor Vessel Head), which has been inoperable in excess of 30 days, requiring a 10-day report.
On May 29, 2002, the DMIMS channel for monitoring the Reactor Vessel Head was declared inoperable due to suspected channel gain problems.
The repair of this channel will be accomplished prior to Mode 2 entry, coming out of Refueling Outage 14 in the fall of 2003.
