electrical wiring installations, piping systems, pipe supports, building structural components, and installed equipment.

No items of noncompli-ance were identified.

Faci lit Turnover Activities In preparation for changing NRC facility construction inspectors, most inspection effort was devoted to reviewing outstanding items, familiariza-tion of the new inspector with major issues, and introductions to site and corporate personnel.

Control Rod Drive CRD

- Stub Tube Weld Evaluation On September 12, 1980 the inspectors met with licensee representatives (see attached list) to witness a demonstration of the ultrason'ic examina-

'ion of a mock up of a CRD housing to stub tube weld and to <<scuss the status of the licensee's evaluation of the ultrasonic indications repor ted in the production welds.

The demonstration revealed low amplitude (less than 50Ã of DAC) indications which are not reportable according to the governing procedure, and which would not be reported on an official data sheet.

These low amplitude indi-

, cations are considered to be not representative of the questionable indicati ons.

The mock up weld will be sectioned in an attempt to reveal the metallurgical nature of the reflectors producing the indications.

In addition, a second mock up weld will be fabricated in another attempt to produce ultrasonic reflectors which are representative of'hose in the production welds.

The inspector asked the licensee if he intended to perform the hydro test prior to resolution of the stub tube weld question.

The licensee stated that the hydro test would be performed as originally scheduled, based on his considered judgment that the risk was minimal.

The licensee will keep the NRC advised of further developments as they occur.

Exit Interview Se tember

The inspector met with the licensee's staff, denoted in para h

p

, 1980, at the conclusion of the inspection.

He summarized the scope and findings of the inspectio
