Conference Scope A meeting was held on January 13, 1989, in the NRC Region I offices at the request of the Public Service Electric and Gas Company to discuss their efforts regarding Salem Units 1 & 2 design bases reconstitutio The licensee discussed the general program for design bases reconstitution, the contents of the design bases documents, affected systems, industry interactions, lessons learned, the processing of identified deficiencies and projected schedules for completio The program was preceded -by a formal slide presentation followed by a question and answer session with the staf Enclosure 1 is a copy of the slide presentation materia It was observed by the NRC staff that the meeting was beneficial to the understanding of the proce~s and the extent of the licensee's effort It was further noted that this program in conjunction with their safety system functi-0nal inspections were significant engineering s~fety initiatives and had the potential for broader applications in the futur Enclosure 2 is a list of the attendees.
