In our letter dated October 27, 1989, we indicated that our response to Generic Letter 88-20 (IPE) would be submitted in September 1992. In order to maintain the desired level of in-house participation in IPE development and review, an extension to the IPE submittal date is required. We request an extension to transmit the IPE submittal.on or before December 15, 1992.
The original schedule was based on man-hour estimates commensurate with the NRC estimates contained in the Generic Letter. _The efforts to provide analyses consistent with the requirements of the- Generic Letter and NUREG 1335 have proven to be greater than those original estimates.
We feel that the most benefit will be obtained from the IPE process if the submittal schedule is extended, thus minimizing the reassignn,ent of IPE tasks from in-house personnel to contractor personnel. This will maximize in-hcuse retention of IPE experience for future use.
