Subject:

Arkansas ' Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368

+ License No. NPF-6 I' ANO-2 Reactor Coolant System Leak Detection Additional Information - TAC No. M90610 Gentlemen: ,

By letter dated September 16, 1994 (2CAN099402), Entergy Operations provided information which demonstrated that the Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2) leakage, detection systems are consistent with the recommendations of Regulatory Guide 1.45. The Staff did not agree with conclusions regarding the capability and sensitivity of the containment sump level instmmentation as it related to detecting a one gallon per minute (gpm) reactor i coolant pressure boundary leak in one hour. )

During the most recent refueling outage, additional points were added to the plant computer monitoring system which included sump level. A rate-of-change algorithm which calculates sump level increase once per minute was also installed on the plant computer monitoring I system. When a sump level increase equivalent to one gpm is detected, an alarm is generated l on the plant computer monitoring system. This alarm will assist the operator in detecting a i one gpm sump level increase within one hour and will be available when the plant computer l monitoring system is operable.
