'i Gentlemen:

The=Long' Island Lighting Company (LILCO) has reviewed the

' Commission's Final Rule and Statement of Policy regarding Fitness-for-Duty Programs (reference.1) as it relates to the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station (SNPS).

In-accordance with.10CFR26.73(d), this correspondence certifies

'to.the NRC that LILCO has developed and begun to implement a fitness-for-duty program at the SNPS that meets the requirements- -

of 10 CFR 26.

-The SNPS Fitness-For-Duty program provides reasonable assurance that personnel associated with SNPS will perform their tasks in a reliable and trustworthy manner and will not work under the influence of any substance, legal or illegal, which may adversely affect their ability to safely and competently perform their duties. Additionally, LILCO's Fitness-For-Duty program provides reasonable measures for the detection of persons who are not fit to perform activities within the scope of the Commission's rules and regulations.
