Annualperformance testsofbatterycapacityshallbegiventoanybatterythat'shows signsofdegradation orhasreached85%oftheservicelifeexpectedfortheapplication.
Degradation isindicated whenthebatterycapacitydropsmorethan10%fromitscapacityonthepreviousperformance test,orisbelow90%ofthemanufacturer's rating.Ifthebatteryhasreached85%ofservicelife,deliversacapacityof100%orgreaterofthemanufacturer's ratedcapacity, andhasshownnosignsofdegradation, performance testingattwoyearintervals isacceptable untilthebatteryshowssignsofdegradation.

3/4BASES3/4.8ELECTRICAL POWERSYSTEMS.Removalofaccumulated waterasrequiredby4.8.1.1.2.b.2 isperformed bydrawingthecontentsoffthebottomofthetankuntilacceptable resultsareobtainedforeitheratapetestorawaterandsedimenttest.Anacceptable resultforthewaterandsedimentcontentisameasuredvaluelessthan0.05percentvolume.Thesamplespecified in4.8.1.1.2.c.4 issentoffsitefortesting.Aseriousattemptwillbemadetomeetthe31-daylimitontheoffsitetests;however,ifforsomereasonthislimitisnotmet(e.g.,ifthesampleislostorbrokenoriftheresultsarenotreceivedin31days),thedieselgenerators shouldnotbeconsidered inoperable.
Ifthesampleislost,broken,orfailstheoffsitetestsandthenewoilhasalreadybeenputintothestoragetank,theoffsitetestswillbeperformed onasampletakenfromthestoragetank.Iftheresultsonthesubsequent'torage tanksamplearenotwithinspecified limits,thedieselgenerators shouldbeconsidered OPERABLEandtheout-of-spec properties shouldbereturnedtowithinspecification assoonaspossible.
