~'NSTRUMENTATIONBASES3/4.3.3.7FIREDETECTIONINSTRUMENTATIONSYSTEMSDETECTORSOPERABILITYofthefiredetectionsystems/detectorsensuresthatadequatedetectioncapabilityisavailableforthepromptdetectionoffires.Thiscapabilityisrequiredinordertodetectandlocatefiresintheirearlystages.Promptdetectionofthefireswillreducethepotentialfordamagetosafetyrelatedsystemsorcomponentsintheareasofthespecifiedsystemsandisanintegralelementintheoverallfacilityfireprotectionprogram.Intheeventthataportionofthefiredetectionsystemisinoperable,Actionsathroughemaintainthefacility'sfireprotectionprogramandallowsforcontinuedoperationofthefacilityuntiltheinoperablesystem(s)/detector(s)arerestoredtoOPERABILITY.However,itisnotourintenttorelyuponthecompensatoryactionforanextendedperiodoftimeandactionwillbetakentorestoretheminimumnumberofdetectorstoOPERABLEstatuswithinareasonableperiod.Insomecases,thelocalwettypefiresuppressionsystem,orpreactionsprinklersystemactuation/supervisoryair(pneumaticdetectionsystem)isusedasanalternativetothefiredetectionsysteminlieuofafirewatch.Inthesecases,thewettypesuppressionorthepreactionactuation/supervisoryairwillserveastheearlywarningdetectionofafireandalerttheappropriateControlRoomofaprobleminthearea.Forthoseareaswithcross-zonefiredetection,theremainingoperablefiredetectionstringwillserveasadequatefiredetectioninlieuofafirewatchuntiltheinoperablefiredetectionstringcanbereturnedtoservice.3/4.3.3.8POST-ACCIDENTINSTRUMENTATIONTheOPERABILITYofthepost-accidentinstrumentationensuresthatsufficientinformationisavailableonselectedplantparameterstomonitorandassessthesevariablesduringandfollowinganaccident.ThecontainmentwaterlevelandcontainmentsumpleveltransmitterswillbemodifiedorreplacedandOPERABLEbytheendoftherefuelingoutagetobegininFebruary1989.Amendment112(Effectivebeforestartupfollowingrefuelingoutagecurrentlyscheduledin2/89.)COOKNUCLEARPLANT-UNIT1B3/43-4AMENDMENTNO.
