Box 300 Seabrook, NH 03874 December 27, 2013 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE SEABROOK STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION-SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVES REVIEW (TAC NO. ME3959) Dear Mr. Walsh: By letter dated May 25, 2010, NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC (NextEra), submitted an application to renew the operating license for Seabrook Station, Unit 1 (Seabrook), for an additional 20 years. In support of the application and in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (1 0 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, NextEra also submitted an environmental report for Seabrook. During the intervening year, NextEra updated their probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and by letter dated March 19, 2012, provided a supplemental severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis based on a PRA update. The staff is reviewing the information contained in the license renewal application, the associated environmental report, and the supplemental SAMA analysis, and has identified, in the enclosure, an area where additional information is needed to complete the SAMA review. The item in the enclosure was discussed with your staff and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 30 days from the date of this letter. Sheehan@nrc.gov Diane.Screnci@nrc.gov Request for Additional Information Regarding the Analysis of Severe Accident Mitigation Alternatives For the Seabrook Station License Renewal Review In order to support the staff analysis of conservatisms in the NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC (NextEra}, severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis, the following information is needed. A. Weather Files: The SAMA analysis included in the weather file for the year 2005. Weather files for all 5 years are needed to support the analysis of conservatisms. Provide the remaining 4 years of weather data. B. Dose Conversion Coefficient File: NextEra implemented what appears to be a custom dose conversion file in the SAMA analysis. The exact version of the dose conversion factor file used by Next Era in the SAMA analysis is needed to support our evaluation of conservatisms.
