Subject:

NRC Response to LES Request to Extend the due date for the RE: Bi-Monthly Inventory Date: Friday, June 24, 2022 8:01:00 AM Jim Rickman, The NRC staff has reviewed the LES, doing business as Urenco, USA (UUSA), request for an extension of submittal of the uranium inventory report via From 327 (327) beyond the 60 days reporting period required by the Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 74.33(c)(4)(ii). You are requesting the extension to allow more time to incorporate data processed by an external company on the quantity of uranium located in certain sodium fluoride traps used at the facility. An extension of the reporting period would require an exemption to the regulations, for which there is insufficient time to process the request prior to the due date (i.e., on or before July 3, 2022). As an alternative, the NRC staff recommends that UUSA estimate the amount of material in the traps, based on historical data, to enable completion and submittal of the 327 within the 60 day timeframe. The 327 report should include an explanation that the amount of material in the traps has been estimated and that a revised 327, with the updated values, will be provided once the actual data from the traps becomes available, but no later than July 29, 2022.

Note: please ensure moving forward that inventory reports are provided on-time with accurate data, as multiple instances of delayed or estimated reports represents a negative trend that may warrant further oversight.

Note: This email train will be docketed in the public Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).

Thanks.

Sincerely, Matt Bartlett Sr. Project Manager NMSS/DFM/FFLB 301-415-7154
