Dear Dr. Travers:

While I live'in New York State,.I am' seriously worried about the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant a mere 14 miles away across the

-Long Island Sound in Connecticut. This nuclear power plant has the. worst safety record of any plant in the county. Despite its history of safety violations, mishaps have continued at an alarming rate. I am especially worried because there is NO ESCAPE, NO EVACUATION possible for eastern Long Islanders. Were an accident to occur at Millstone--and, reading the newspaper, I feel that this is increasingly likely--we would be stuck, unable to move out of harm's way! You must act, as our representative, to shut down Millstone. And, in'the meantime, you must provide adequate emergency planning in case of radiological accident.

'This is an important and essential responsibility, and we are relying.on your immediate action!

Last. week, the Connecticut newspaper, LONDON DAY, discussed an internal report submitted by plant safety inspector at Millstone. While preparing to reopen reactor #2, Northeast Utilities decided to refuel reactor #3. It was reported that

" poor planning for current refueling outage at Millstone #3 Nuclear Power Plant led to a series of "near misses" which increased the chance for an accident that could have damaged the reactor core."

You cannot allow this= plant to operate, threatening us with "near misses" of core meltdown. Don't be responsible for another Chernobyl! Don't allow this company in Connecticut.to create snother Three Mile Island on Long Island.

Please do something RIGHT NOW. And, please write back and let me know WHAT YOU HAVE DONE to SHUT DOWN MILLSTONE.

l Sincerely, f
