URVEILLANCE PROCEDURE 6.3.18.1 SERVICE WATER PUMP OPERABILITY TEST I. PURPOSE -
A. To provide a detailed instruction for station personnel to test oper-ability of the service water (SW) pumps.
II. DISCUSSION A. The SW pumps shall be proven operable by their use during normal station operations. Since three pumps are continuously operating during normal operation and only one pump is required during accidents, the normal equipment rotation shall prove the pump operability.
III. REFERENCE MATERIAL A. USAR. *
- 1. Volume I,Section I, Subsection 6.2.17.
- 2. Volume IV,Section X, Subsection 8'.1.
B. System Operating Procedure 2.2.71; Service Water System.
IV. .PREREOUISITES A. Obtain permission of the Shift Supervisor.
B. Establish communications.
C. Seal water available to the SW pumps from the riverwell pumps.
V. LIMITATIONS A. Surveillance Requirements - Technical Specifications Section 4.12.C.1.a.
- 1. Test the SW pump operability monthly.
B. Administrative Limits.
- 1. All discrepancies shall be recorded in the Shift Supervisor's log.
- 2. Attachment "A" shall be used to record the test and filed as part of the station records.
- 3. All testing shall be coordinated with the Control Room Operator.

VI. PPECAUTIONS A. Seal water must be supplied to the pump bearings before starting.
B. Place three pumps in operation when supplying the Control Building and secondary closed cooling water systems. .
C. Avoid pump runout; rated full load SW pump motor current'is 40.8 amps.
D. SW pump selector switches; place one SW pump selector switch on Bd-A -
and Bd-B to AUTO. Place the other selector switches to STANDBY. The white light (when lit) at the selector switch indicates the 4160 V breaker racked in and the associated SW pump control switch in the STANDBY position.

I. PROCEDURE
A. Service Water Pump Operability Test.
- 1. Fill out Attachment "A" for the pump (s) running.
- 2. Complete the Prerequisites in Section IV. above.
- 3. Start the idle SW pump (s) as follows:
- a. Ensure that the pump selector switch is not in AUTO.
- b. Turn the control switch on Bd-A or Bd-B for the desired pump to start.
- c. Observe the starting current drops off to between 30 and 40 amps.
- d. Fill out Attachment "A" for the pump (s) started.
- 4. Shut down the SW pump (s) as follows:
- a. Position the control switch for the desired pump to STOP. i
- b. Observe that the pump amperage drops to zero,
- c. Fill out Attachment "A" for the pump (s) shutdown.
