s COOPER NUCLEAR STATION OPERATIONS MANUAL SURVEILLANCE PROCEDURE 6.3.16.1 REC - PITMP OPERABILITY TEST I. PURPOSE To provide a detailed instruction for station personnel to perform a pump operability test of the reactor equipment cooling system.

II. DISCUSSION The pumpreesting is performed to provide assurance of reliability of pump requirements listed in Technical Specifications Section 3.12.B.

IV. PREREQUISITES _

A. Obtain permission and signature from the Shif t Supervisor before starting the test.

V. LIMITATIONS A. Surveillance Requirements - Technical Specifications Section 4.12.B.1.a.

Pump Operability Testing - once per month.

B. Administrative Limits.

1. All discrepancies shall be recorded in the Shif t Supervisor's log.
2. Data Sheet 6.3.16.1 attached shall be used to record the test, and filed as part of the station records.
3. All testing shall be coordinated with the Control Roou Operator.

VI. PRECAUTIONS A. Observe normal operating requirements.

VII. TEST EQUIPMENT None required..

VIII'. PROCEDURE Note: Two or three pumps are normally in service.

A. Perform Test as Follows: + 4-3,;3

1. Obtain permission and signatare from Shift Supervisor before starting the test.
2. Establish communication between Operator locally at REC pumps and Control Room vertical board M.
3. Note and record REC system pressure as indicated on REC-PI-452, VBD-M.
4. Record REC pumps presently in service.
5. Start an idle pump by turning control switch on VBD-H to " start".
a. Creen "stop" light goes out and red " start" light turns on.
b. Note REC pressure increases on REC-PI-452.

6. Secure one REC pump originally in service by turning control switch to "stop".
a. Red " start" light goes out and green "stop" light turns on.
b. Note REC pressure on REC-PI-452 returns to approximately initial recorded pressure. -
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for remaining REC pumps originally idle.
8. Locally at pumps, visually check pumps for normal operation i.e. normal noise and vibration level, idle pumps not rotating backwards.
9. Restore the pump configuration as existing operating requirements dictate. Refer to Operating Procedure 2.2.65.
10. Notify the Shift Supervisor that the test is completed.

4. REC pumps in service.
5. Start one REC pump originally idle.
a. Creen "stop" light off and red " start" light on.
b. Note REC pressure increases on REC-PI-452.
6. Secure one REC pump originally in service.
a. Red " start" light off and green "stop" light on.
b. Note REC pressure returns to approximately initial pressure.
7. Steps 5 and 6 repeated for all originally idle pumps.
8. Perform local visual checks on pumps for normal operation:
9. Restore pumps as required by operating conditions.
10. Notify Shif t Supervisor test complete.
