. i 5.0 PRECAUTIONS PERFORMER 1
5.1 Do not work on energized breaker. Check all tagging, and then test electrical components with voltage tester prior to performing work. J 5.2 Do not use compressed air when cleaning breakers.
. NOTE: Compressed air may be used on arc chutes when they are removed from the breaker.
5.3 After cleaning contacts, do not touch them'by hand.
5.4 Keep hands clear of moving parts of breakers when breakers are required to be operated.
5.5 Precautions have been read and are u'nderstood.

6.0 PROCEDURE 6.1 Remove UVTA power. fuses UVFUI and UVFU2, shunt trip fuses ASFUI, ASFU2, BSFUI and BSFU2.
6.2 Install visicorder trace to monitor UvTA wire points 301 and 305 at UVTA fuses.
6.3 Connect a D.C. power supply.fadjustable 10-125V, rated .5 amp at 125V) across UVTA points.301 and 305.

- 6.16 Dropout Voltage Test Connect a D.C. power supply (adjustable 10-125V, rated
.5 amps at 125V and.a voltmeter (21% accuracy) across the UVTA coil by means of test leads across secondary contact terminals. Apply rated voltage and close breaker I
. manually. Reduce voltage to within 5 to 6 volts of last recorded dropout voltage (on very first test make quick trial run) and then decrease voltage slowly (15 sec/ volt) until breaker trips. Repeat test twice and average the three readings. Record average dropout voltage before lubrication

CAUTION:
Ensure overcurrent trip pacs are removed'from trip bar. Do nct replace these overcurrent attachments after testing is' completed.
6.26.1 Energize the undervoltage coil from a de source, at the rated voltage, with a capacity of at least 0.25 amperes.
6.26.2 Close the breaker manually.
6.26.3 Using a spring-force scale or a force gauge, pull or push up (per Attachment 11) vertically on the trip bar.
Record below the force at the instant of breaker trip. The trip force should be 31 oz. or less.

- 6.28.1 Verify trip bar moves freely by raising and lowering the bar by hand (it should feel like a free weight).
6.28.2 Restrain the UVTA reset lever with a cord or wire restraint (reset lever Attachment 10).

. are in proper alignment and move freely and that all contacts are properly aligned.

6.28.4 Push the " push t'o trip" button to trip the breaker.

- 6.36 Closing Solenoid Check *I 6.36.1. The closing solenoid is nonadjustable. It is designed for intermittent duty only. Check for loose bolts.
6.37 Closing Solenoid Coil Replacement NOTE: Perform Step 6.37 only if coil has failed.'
6.37.1 To remove the closing coil, trip the breaker.
Disconnect the closing coil leads from the control circuit wiring. Remove bolts, washers, relay release arm and plate. Drop closing coil out along with brass tube.
6.37.2 To replace closipg coil, be sure to replace the brass tube so that the stationary core and moving core are aligned in the tube. Reassemble the closing coil with ,
~
- brass tube and install bolts, washers, relay release arm and plate.
6.38 Control Relay Check
- 6.38.1 The control relay. mounts directly under the auxiliary 1.
switch. .
6.38.2 Remove the relay cover and inspect the contact surfaces.
. 6.38.3 Manually push relay armature to close contacts.
6.38.4 Slowly close the breaker manually. The relay release arm should operate the relay trip assembly and the relay trip assembly .should open the relay contacts just before the breaker latches. This can best be verified by watching the
. pawl in the breaker operating mechanism, which should snap in place just af ter the relay contacts open.
6.38,.5 If the relay operation sequence is not correct, bend the .
relay release arm to suit. Make sure that the relay release arm does not rub on either side or the relay trip assembly lever operator.
6.38.6 With the breaker latched, de-energize and energize the relay operating coil. The relay contacts should not move toward the close position.
