To outline methods used by J. A. Jones and Subcontractors to handle, test and install, and field repair of waterstops.

WATERFORD SES UNIT NO. 3 CONTRACT NO. W3-NY-4 4 2-02-78 7.0 PERSONNEL Each craftsman making splices shall be trained in the method of making splices. Three (3) " test unit" sample splices shall be made by the craf ts-man prior to making production splices. These three " test units" shall be turned over to the Engineer for testing as required by Reference 3.1.

Additional " test unit" samples shall be made, for testing as required. A log of trained splicers shall be maintained, see Attachment 12.3 8.0 EQUI PMENT Splicing Heater. tool . Vinylex No. WC-1, manufactured by Vinylex Corporation, Knoxville, Tennessee, and shall be thermostatically preset for 460 degrees F and operate on 11 OV A.C.

9.0 PROCEDURE Connect splicing heater tool to 110 A.C. outlet approximately 10 to 15 9.1 minutes prior to use to allow heat-up time to reach 4600F, 9.2 Overlap the two pieces of waterstop material to be spliced and cut as required, to ensure matching edges. ,

9.3 Press the straight cut edges against the pre-heated splicer heated tool blade for approximately 10 to 20 seconds or until. PVC melts.

9.4 quickly remove the heater tool blade and press the melted edges together to form a neat splice joint.

9.5 Do not stretch or move the spilced section for 30 seconds. To cool the materlaI,,quiekiy,_ water may , be used.

-2 9.6 ' Repairs of cuts in P.V.C. Waterstop may be made by completely cleaning the damaged area.

t<- 2 9.7 Heat the base mat material and filler material using splicing heater tool.

t-2 9.8 Fuse the filler material with the base material.

1- 2 9.9 Upon completion of fusing, excess filler material shall be removed and repaired area shall be reshaped by heating to obtain exterior configura-tion as necessa ry.  ;

-a 9.10 Repaired area shall be Inspected and Inspection documented.

-2 9.11 Repair waterstop not embeded properly. Chip concrete, straighted and support waterstop as required.

-2 9.12 Remove all dust, f altance, and other foreign particles.

.- 2 9.13 Coat concrete and waterstop with Sikadur-Hi-Mod Epoxy, per manufacturer's j recomenda t ions.

-2 9.14 Void shall be filled by one of the following methods:

{ a.) Sikadur-Hi-Mod Epoxy and sand mix (one part epoxy to three parts sand)

-3 b.) Dry-pack per LOU-1564.472, Section 5.10.

t 10.0 TEST UNITS i

" Test units" shall be made to meet the following requirements: -

10.1 Three (3) " test units" shall be made by each splicer craftsman for ,

qualification. In addition, one (1) " test unit" shall be made when splicer craf tsman is changed or as deemed necessary by the Engineer. ,

10.2 One (1) ," test unit" shall be made for each ten (10) field splices. i

. 10.3 " Test units" may be taken from splices made in waterstop in the structure I or f rom " companion" waterstop placed alongside the actual waterstop to be i used for the sole purpose of obtaining test samples.

, 11.0 CONDITIONS .

Job made " test units" shall be made under normal job working conditions.
