Dear Mr. Grier:

IE Bulletin 80-19 describes the failures of mercury-wetted relays used in the logic matrix of the reactor protection system (RPS) of nuclear power plants designed by Combustion Engineering (C-E).

As directed by the Bulletin, a review has been conducted of the General Electric supplied " reactor protection system" (RPS) to determine if any mercury-wetted relays are used. No relays of this type have been utilized in the reactor protection system at Shoreham.

In response to your request for information to assist in evaluating the value/ impact of each Bulletin, we estimate that approximately 8 engineering manhours have been expended in responding to this Bulletin.

We trust that the above information has been responsive to your request. Should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

ery . yours, f nouc
