RE: Clarification questions on Callaway relief request I3R-15 (TAC No. MF2921)

1. The licensee stated in Section 5 of I3R-15, In addition, the non-isolable Class 1 portion of lines BB-020-BCA-2", BB-037-BCA-2",

and BB-074-BCA-2" are volumetrically examined as part of an augmented lSI program in accordance with MRP-146 (Materials Reliability Program: Management of Thermal Fatigue in Normally Stagnant Non-Isolable Reactor Coolant System Branch Lines).

In addition, one pipe-to-elbow weld (2-EJ-04-F034) between valves BBPV8702A and BBHV8701A on line EJ-001-BCA-12" and one pipe-to-elbow weld (2-EJ-04-S014-D) between valves BBPV8702B and BBHV8701B on line EJ-008-BCA-12" are examined as part of Callaway's lnservice Inspection (lSI) Program.

What type of examination (volumetric, surface, visual, ) did the licensee perform?

Response

BB-074-BCA-2": The downstream pipe adjacent to the first elbow off the main loop reactor coolant system piping is volumetrically examined (ultrasonic examination) from the socket connection to one inch downstream.

BB-037-BCA-2" and BB-020-BCA-2": The base metal of the bottom half of the first elbow off the main loop reactor coolant system piping is volumetrically examined (ultrasonic examination) including the down-stream pipe to elbow weld.

2-EJ-04-F034 and 2-EJ-04-S014-D. The welds are volumetrically examined (ultrasonic examination).

2. The licensee also stated, In addition, the pipe-to-valve weld (2-BG-21-F012) on line BB-004-BCA-3" to valve BB8378A is volumetrically examined as part of Callaway's lSI program.

In addition, the pipe-to-valve weld (2-BG-24-FW061) on line BG-027-BCA-2" to valve BBV0084 is volumetrically examined as part of Callaway's lSI program.

1

In addition, the pipe-to-valve weld (line BG-027-BCA to BBV0084) for the inboard isolation valve is volumetrically examined as part of Callaway's lSI program.

The non-isolable, Class 1 portions of drain lines BB-020-BCA-2", BB-037-BCA-2", and BB-074-BCA-2" are now volumetrically examined as part of an augmented lSI program in accordance with MRP-146 program.

Did the licensee find any rejectable indications, and leakage, in the pipes and the components during the above examinations?

Response

Neither recordable indications nor signs of leakage have been found during the above examinations.

What type of examination (volumetric, surface, visual, ) did the licensee perform?

2. The licensee also stated, 2

In addition, the pipe-to-valve weld (2-BG-21-F012) on line BB-004-BCA-3" to valve BB8378A is volumetrically examined as part of Callaway's lSI program.

In addition, the pipe-to-valve weld (2-BG-24-FW061) on line BG-027-BCA-2" to valve BBV0084 is volumetrically examined as part of Callaway's lSI program.
