Dear Sir:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Interim Report on the Stop Work on Safety Related and Code 'a'eldino On April 11, 1980, Houston Lighting & Power Company reported to your office a deficiency involving a stop work order on safety related and code welding at the South Texas Project site. This transmittal provides an interim report as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). Another re-port concerning this deficiency will be sent to your office in three (3) months. Also addressed in the attached report is a discussion of a con-struction deficiency concerning an apparent breakdown in the Brown & Root QA Program for welding that was addressed in the Region IV, I&E Report 80-05, dated April 25, 1980.
