4 OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Non-Routine Environmental Operating Report Report No. 50-219/79-4 Report Date August 21, 1979 Occurrence Date August 01, 1979 Identification of Occurrence Exceeded a limiting condition of operation of the Technical Specifications, Appendix B, paragraph 2.1.4.3 This event is considered to be a non-routine environmental operating report as defined in the Technical Specifications, Appendix B, paragraph 5.6.2.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence The plant was operating at steady-state power.

Dilution Pump Flow: 5.2 x 105 gpm Circulating Pump Flow: 4.6 x 105 gpm Power: Reactor 1920 MWt Generator 640 MWe Description of Occurrence On August 1, 1979, from 13:15 hours to 13:55 hours, only one dilution punip was in service. At 13: 15 hours1.736111e-4 days <br />0.00417 hours <br />2.480159e-5 weeks <br />5.7075e-6 months <br />, with No. I and 2 dilution pumps running, No. 2 dilution pump tripped due to high lube oil temperature and could not be restarted. Due to maintenance work being performed at the dilution plant intake structure, the reserve pump (No. 3) was not started until 13:55 hours.

__, arent Cause of Occurrence Component failure is the apparent cause of this occurrence. The No. 2 dilution punp oil temperature switch was out of calibration.

Non-rcutine Environmental Operating Report Page 2 Rapart No. 50-219/79-4 August 21, 1979 Corrective Action The lube oil temperature was recalibrated to its correct setting. In addition, in order to ensure prompt identificat!cn of similar occurrences, a memorandum has been eritten to the Station Operations Supervisor explaining the dilution pump operating requirements as specified by the Appendix 3 Technical Specifi-cations. The memorandum requests that operating personnel verify and log dilution pump starts and stops, log operating difficulties, and notify the Operations Supervisor of any occurrences when the pumps are not operated in accordance with the Technical Specifications. This memorandum has been made required reading by operations personnel .
